Global Change is a ministry program of Missions Door which provides leadership development and scholarship assistance for students in Latin America. The vision of Global Change focuses upon “Changing communities through Christian servant leadership.”Global Change was established upon three rationales:
1. Leadership development is a powerful instrument to transform communities;
2. Leadership development should include more than spiritual formation; and
3. Leaders in many impoverished countries cannot obtain a higher education degree because of lack of financial resources.
The Mission of Global Change is: “To enable emerging leaders from underprivileged communities to obtain a higher education degree and train them to be change agents in their communities by their servant Christian leadership.”
Global Change has two main goals:
1. To establish a one-year leadership development program for qualified disadvantaged Christian senior high school students from Christian churches in impoverished countries. They will be enrolled in a program that has a training emphasis in three main areas: spiritual formation, education enrichment and character development (ethics).
2. To create a higher education scholarship program for nominated students who graduate from the first phase of the program and who demonstrate leadership potential, exceptional academic achievement, and commitment to a community service project of their choice.
The initial setting for the Global Change ministry will be in Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Dominican Republic. An annual budget of $27,000 is needed to launch this new leadership development ministry.
Joaquin Vargas, who serves as the Director of Latino and Caribbean Ministries, oversees and coordinates the distribution of this fund.
