Haiti is a Creole and French-speaking country in the Caribbean. It occupies one-third of the island of Hispaniola, sharing it with the Dominican Republic.

The name Haiti comes from the Taíno word Aytí, which means "Mountainous Land." France officially incorporated the colony in the early 1600s by signing a treaty with Spain to take over the western third of the island. On January 1 of 1804, Haiti obtained its independence as a nation, second only to the United States, as the earliest independent nation in "the New World."

Haiti has remained the least-developed country in the Americas. About 80% of the population lives in extreme poverty. According to the United Nations, Haiti is the only country in the Americas on the list of Least Developed Countries.

After earlier ministry in Haiti was discontinued, Missions Door reestablished ministry in 1992. The ministry includes church planting, leadership development, children’s ministries and economic development.

The Haiti Ministry Fund is used for pastoral subsidies provided to churches that will never be able to support their pastors. Funding also provides literature and Bibles to train new believers, equipment and musical instruments to help new churches communicate the gospel in relevant ways, and transportation assistance for national leader training.

Missionary Herode Guillomettre provides overall leadership and coordination of the Missions Door ministries and missionaries in Haiti, including the oversight and distribution of the Haiti Ministry Fund.
