FIELD
It was at a Navigator conference in 1977 that Larry felt led to start formal training for missions. After receiving his master of divinity and master of theology degrees, the Hemphills were appointed with WorldVenture in 1985 for ministry in Brazil. Adjusting to life and ministry in Brazil was great preparation for the Hemphills’ next missionary assignment.

In February of 1995 they transferred to Missions Door as missionaries to international students at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Both their cross-cultural experience and their own time spent on campus while in school have uniquely prepared them for ministry to international students.

FAITH
Larry grew up on a small farm near Griswold, Iowa, in a close-knit Christian home, which laid a good foundation for his later conversion while in college.

It was during subsequent years in college that he began to realize God was leading him into service in missions.

For both Larry and Marletta, involvement in Navigators was a crucial part of God’s shaping their calling for missions.

FAMILY
Larry and Marletta were married in 1977.
