David Freeman Klee
FIELD
David Klee was born and raised in Liberia. Appointed by Missions Door in 2011, he is now involved in church planting in the city of Monrovia, training local church workers, reaching Muslims and encouraging local ministries.
FAITH
Rev. Klee had a long church-going history, even from infancy. He learned about the Bible in school, so all along he thought he was a Christian.
While attending church one day in 1983, the message spoke to his heart and he realized he was only attending church but was not a Christian. It was there he prayed and invited Christ into his life and accepted Him as personal Lord and Savior.
After high school he enrolled in the University of Liberia, majoring in economics with a minor in accounting. His desire was to graduate and make money and live big. The Liberian civil war brought this dream to an abrupt end. He was internally displaced and during this time he attended Trumpet Baptist Church in Ganta, northern Liberia. He began a tire repair shop there and sent his tithes to the church, but never personally attended.
One day, the head pastor of the church, Rev. Moses W. Wonbenyakeh, went to David’s house with the money he had donated, and gave it back and said, “You cannot bribe God. Take your money and see if God will not support His work.” David pleaded with him and eventually they became close friends.
Because the pastor was a trained church planter, he took David along whenever he was traveling. In short, God used Rev. Wonbenyakeh to help him hear the call of God on his life.
FAMILY
David’s father married 14 wives and was blessed with 27 children. As poverty and old age set in, most of his wives left him, leaving only David’s mother with him till his death. She was blessed with eight children and David is the third oldest. Education was never a priority for his father and so they had to make it on their own. David is the third in his family to obtain a university degree.
EDUCATION
B.A. in Theology in 2007, Accra, Ghana
