FIELD
During the mid eighties, Luis worked in Missions Door’s church-planting-by-extension program, with missionaries George Patterson, Darryl Davis and Humberto Del Arca. He was where he wanted to be; but needing formal training, he was given a scholarship by Missions Door to go to seminary. Nine years in the pastorate followed, but Luis never lost his vision to someday return to church planting in a missionary context.
In 1999 Luis shared his call and vision with Missions Door, and he was appointed in January 2001. A visit to Panama confirmed in his heart that the Lord was leading his family to serve there.
FAITH
Luis was born into a loving Catholic family in Olanchito, Honduras. His father worked for a banana company and his mother was a government nurse. Through the testimony of his high school classmate, Luis accepted Jesus as his Savior in June of 1979, was baptized in September of the same year, and then was called by the Lord into full-time ministry in April 1983.
Luis says, “In that same instant I left everything and launched myself into the work given to me.”
That’s a good description of how Luis has approached life and ministry, even turning down a commission in the Honduran Navy after his graduation from the Naval Academy.
FAMILY
Azucena and Luis were married in August 1985. Their daughters Azucena Elizabeth and Janie Nohemi join their parents in their enthusiasm to be serving in Panama.
