Christopher and Christine Vogt
FIELD
Chris was appointed as a Campus and Church Planting Minister in February of 2010. He and his wife, Christine, have been called by God to plant a church near the SUNY Brockport Campus with Tom and Cindy Capuano, who have served there with Campus Ambassadors since 2003.
As they come together to serve their community and each other, to learn from the Bible, to pray, and to obey God in everything He shows them, they believe God will reveal Himself, bringing joy & salvation to many–and that as each grows in faith and obedience, they too will cast their nets for Him, yielding a harvest of souls for His Kingdom.
FAITH
Sensing something spiritual animating physical life, Chris took a class his senior year of college that encouraged students to look inside themselves for truth, spiritual experiences, and answers to life’s questions.
During this time and the years that followed, his sister persistently challenged him about his sin, its consequences, and a man named Jesus who claimed to be God. She also said that healthy spiritual experiences come only in a relationship with Him and suggested Chris read the Bible. He finally read it to prove her wrong. Instead, he found truth, forgiveness and love in Jesus Christ.
Chris received Jesus as Savior and Master in August, 1986. Immediately he realized that most people he knew were still where he had been–guessing at who or what God is–gathering opinions, theories and philosophies about God and life, but unsure of what’s true and what isn’t.
Since then, Chris has been compelled to share the gospel with family, friends and acquaintances as he’s worked in sales and served in various ministries at Journey Christian Church. Having also experienced how scary sharing about Jesus can feel, he teaches and equips people to move past the fear and do it anyway, trusting God to enable them–and to keep His promise to reveal Himself to those who obey Him.
Chris has learned from gifted Bible teachers and from serving alongside fellow Christians as he’s taught Sunday School to children, youth and adults; spoken at men’s retreats, evangelism seminars, jail church services, YMCA meetings, and SUNY Brockport events; led boys’ CSB Ministry, men’s discipleship groups, and Deacon Ministry, and done one-on-one evangelism and discipleship. His greatest joy is seeing people come into relationship with Jesus and live for Him.
FAMILY
Chris and Christine met through her brother, with whom Chris shared a dorm room at UAlbany. They married in 1985, just prior to coming to faith in Christ. They have three adult children, Michael, Jessica and John, who are actively seeking to use their gifts for God.
