Kevin and Lisa served with New Tribes Mission from 1989 to 2011 in Colombia, Venezuela, and Mexico. They ministered among tribal people for many of those years, learning their languages and cultures in order to minister in their mother tongues.
They also served in a training institute helping prepare Mexican believers to do cross-cultural church planting. During those years they had the privilege of working alongside team members of various nationalities, both in Spanish and English.
As a couple, the Lewises made a huge life change in leaving an organization they had been with for over twenty years. Part of their hearts will always be in New Tribes Mission because of their sound goals and methods. This was the result of a year furlough in prayer to God for what was next.
They both desire to serve God with their whole beings regardless of the human organization. Through a casual mention of a church planter for Missions Door, a conversation began to open an unexpected opportunity, an unexpected opportunity turned into God’s moving in their hearts to reach out to the Hispanic community in the U.S.
With Missions Door, Kevin and Lisa are working in part of a church-planting effort among the Hispanic community. They are working as part of a team to train people from Hispanic communities who believe God is leading them to be pastors.
This effort will be to partner these couples/individuals with existing Anglo churches that want to reach out into the Hispanic world around them.
Kevin was born and raised in California and attended high school in Placentia. In the following years he worked as a diesel mechanic during which time God began a work in his heart. He trusted Christ as Lord and Savior at 21 years of age through the reading of the New Testament.
In 1983 he went to Bolivia, South America for two months and saw the mission field first hand. Upon returning he recognized his need to know God’s Word better.
Kevin received missionary training with New Tribes Mission which consisted of Bible School, missionary training and linguistics and he has a Bachelor’s in Intercultural Ministries. His daily goal is to have God’s Word conform his thoughts and actions, and have his character model that of Jesus Christ.
Lisa is a third generation missionary and trusted Christ as a child. She was motivated to serve God at an early age as she saw and felt the hopelessness in the lives of tribal people in South America. She also received missionary training with New Tribes Mission which consisted of Bible School, missionary training and linguistics.
Her husband says that she is a faithful, dedicated wife, mother, and Christian life partner and Kevin is madly in love with her.
Kevin and Lisa were married in 1986 and have three grown children: Kristine, 27, is working as a nurse with Visiting Angels; Michael, 24, is working in stamped cement learning the work and the business; Lee, 21, will graduate in May 2015 with a degree in mechanical engineering and will start work with Raytheon in the summer.
