Azucena was appointed with Missions Door in July 2017. Her vision is to partner with missionaries and pastors and to organize medical brigades, taking the Gospel and healthcare to less favored communities throughout Central America.
Being the daughter of missionaries, she has been involved in ministry since she was young. Azucena has grown up witnessing the great need for spiritual and physical health in her country, always wondering how she could serve God and help people. Since completing her studies to become a doctor, she is excited to pursue the vision and calling God has place on her life.
Azucena was born in La Ceiba, Honduras. When she was seven, her parents showed her the movie The Public Life of Jesus and she decided to receive Jesus Christ as her Savior.
When she was 14, her family moved to Panama where her parents were appointed as church planters with Missions Door. She later decided she wanted to study medicine and use her education to serve God through missions.
Azucena is the eldest daughter of Luis and Azucena Matute, missionaries in Panama and Costa Rica. She has a younger sister, Janie.
Azucena received her degree in 2015 as a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery.
