Doug Geeze, Board Chair 

Doug was elected chair of the board in 2018. He and his wife, Joanne, have been married since 1984, and have three children, Matthew, Jonathan and Caroline. Doug has pastored Faith Church in Auburn, MA since 1989, and he also serves as the Chaplain to the Auburn Fire Department. Prior to becoming the Senior Pastor of Faith Church, Doug graduated from Houghton College in Western, NY and then acquired his Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. As an avid Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics fan, Doug’s sport loyalty remains in New England. When he’s not serving, Doug may be found spending time with his family or playing golf.

Ken Underhill, Board Vice Chair

Ken Underhill has been a board member with Missions Door since 2014 and currently serves as the vice chair. Ken is also the pastor of Jackson Baptist Church in Jackson, NJ where he has served since 1995. Before serving at Jackson Baptist, he and his wife, Barbara, served as missionaries with WorldVenture in Slovenia. Ken is a graduate of Gordon College and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He is an avid baseball fan whose loyalty remains with the Boston Red Sox, after growing up just north of Boston.

Emil J. Núñez, Board Clerk

Emil is from Tegucigalpa, Honduras (Central America) and was appointed for a three-year term on the Board of Directors in August 2016. He is a business executive with experience in market development and operations in the food industry. For more than 30 years, he has been an active member of Iglesia Bautista Los Robles (IBLR) and currently serves as the Associate Pastor. Previous appointments have included Youth Leader and drummer. IBLR is a Missions Door affiliated church. For six years he served as chairman of the board for HRVC radio station in Honduras and now is vice-President for Puerta a las Misiones Honduras (Missions Door Honduras). He holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and an M.B.A. Emil enjoys cooking, reading, mountain biking, jogging and serving others. He and his wife Maŕia Lucía have three young children: Emil Jr., Luciana, and Sebastian.

Sheryl Claypool

Sheryl was born in Los Angeles, CA. She and her husband, Dennis, currently live in Mesa, Arizona, and have three children and five grandchildren.

Sheryl holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in multicultural education and a master’s degree in education. She works as an elementary school teacher, an ESL coach, a Sheltered English Immersion Instructor at Mesa Community College, and is a Mesa District Professional Development Instructor for ESL strategies.

Sheryl has always been very involved with her church and with missions. At their current church, Trinity Church of Mesa where they have attended for 21 years, she serves as a small group coordinator and leader, has been the Director of Women’s Outreach and Ministry, and serves through VBS and choir. At their former churches, Sheryl served on the mission board, and as a children’s church director, choir director, outreach director, and VBS director.

Sheryl and Dennis have supported several children through Compassion International and World Vision. Whether she is teaching in lower socio-academic settings, fighting for the disabled, or raising money for the sick, Sheryl works to be an advocate for those without a voice. She has also gone on several mission trips to Mexico, Los Angeles, and Sri Lanka.

Sheryl loves to travel and experience new cultures. “God is powerful and if others know anything about me, it’s that I love Jesus and I love people. Most of all, I want others to see Christ in me.”

Aaron Lee

Aaron was born and raised in Tigard, Oregon. He came to know Jesus as a child as he grew up in a Christian household. Aaron attended Azusa Pacific University to pursue a degree in medicine, and later graduated with a general science degree from Portland State University.

Aaron has a rich history of missionary work and has a heart to invest in the next generation. While at Azusa, he took several trips to Mexico to help restore a small community neighborhood. What originally started as one spring break missions trip to Mexico later turned into monthly trips to help spread the Gospel by serving with food distribution, rebuilding homes, and playing with the neighborhood kids. He later served as a leader in Younglife in a local high school for 5 years.

For the past 8 years, Aaron has served as a medical assistant for an internal medicine doctor. He recently began a new endeavor in the fitness industry.

He has been happily married to his wife, Marisa, since 2016. They attend Collective Church in Tigard, Oregon. His interests include spending time with his family, traveling the world, experiencing new cultures, trying new foods, health and fitness.

Steven McCracken

Steve McCracken joined the Board of Directors in 2016. Steve has served as lead pastor of Grace Point Community Church in Tigard, OR for 25 years. Prior to his time at Grace Point, Steve served as a college pastor, family pastoral assistant and high school leader at EvFree, Fullerton, CA. Steve has an M. Div. in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and an M.A. in Christian Education from Talbot Theological Seminary. For all of his 36 years of ministry, Steve has been engaged in mission work both as a “goer” and as a “sender.” He and his wife, Debbie, have led summer-long trips to Hungary with college students. He has spoken at mission conferences in Taiwan and Kenya, and has led many multi-aged mission trips to Honduras. Steve and Debbie were college sweethearts and just celebrated 35 years of marriage. Along with his love for his wife and their three adult children, Steve loves camping, really loves good coffee, and really, really loves dark chocolate!

E. Romero

Romero was elected to the Board of Directors in 2017. God placed a passion on Romero’s heart, specifically for reaching children for Jesus Christ. Romero has had many opportunities for service including Sunday School, Urban Academy, Vacation Bible School, ESL, evangelistic outreach, short-term missions, prayer walks, and training ministries. This service extends both nationally and on a global level. Romero enjoys walking, photography, reading, arts and crafts, and experiencing new cultures through travel, food, music, and art.

Elliot Sands

Elliot was born and raised in Livermore, California. He attended high school in Nigeria, where his parents served as missionaries. He later returned to California and earned his bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from Westmont College and then his MBA from San Jose State University. Later, he attended Western Seminary where he earned a Master of Divinity degree.

In 2004, Elliot first joined the Church on the Hill staff in San Jose, California, as the Pastor of Business Administration. Since that time, he has taken on additional responsibilities including directing the Mission Action Council (MAC), leading the Global Outreach (GO) Teams, overseeing construction projects for the church, and being the Achiever School Principal.

Elliot is happily married to his wife Penny and they have two grown kids and one young daughter at home. The family enjoys taking missions trips so that they can serve together. Elliot and Penny also offer pre-marital counseling at the church and lead classes together on Sunday mornings.

Michele Thurston

Michele Thurston was elected to the Board of Directors in 2017. Michele has been working in the financial services industry since 1989 and is currently employed by one of the largest retirement plan record keepers in the United States. Her education includes a BSBA in Finance from the University of Denver. Michele is also an active member of Foundry Church (formerly known as Castle Pines Community Church) in Castles Pines, CO. She currently serves on the worship team, and was previously a missions board member, head of the deacon team, church treasurer, college ministry leader, youth mentor and hospitality team member. Michele has also participated in a church-sponsored mission trip the Dominican Republic. Michele has been happily married to her husband, Tres, since 1994, and her interests include skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, golfing, hiking, mountain biking, and other Colorado mountain activities.
