Ministry Focus

College is a critical time in a young person’s life. Many students are quietly asking spiritual questions, wrestling with pain, or longing for connection but don’t know where to turn. Devin wants to be someone who meets them in that space. To introduce them to the greatest listener of all, Christ. His ministry focuses on one-on-one Bible studies, small group discussions, and teaching in larger settings—but he also uses creative tools like Table-top Role-playing Games and board games to create safe, welcoming spaces for students who might never step into a traditional Bible study. These activities open doors to conversations about morality, purpose, and spiritual truth—all in a Christ-centered environment where grace leads the way. The vision would be to see an impact of healing and truth being shared on our Campus here at Western Oregon University. To see students becoming disciples and then going off to disciple others.

Faith Story

Devin grew up in many places he called home defined by abuse, and addiction and where faith in Christ was not only absent but actively scorned. As a result, he spent much of his early life angry, isolated, and deeply depressed—fighting with others and battling suicidal thoughts long before he turned 18. In 2019, he was invited to a youth group by his girlfriend at the time. Devin went just to impress her, but over time he found something unexpected: a community that prayed together, cared for one another, and lived out what they believed.

Though he didn't take it seriously at first, the group slowly became a place of peace in contrast to the chaos at home. In late 2022, after a violent incident with a family member, Devin ran away with nowhere to go. Desperate, afraid, and walking alone in the rain, he saw a sign that read “Jesus Saves.” He dropped to his knees and cried out to Him for the first time in his life: “Jesus, save me.” In that moment, something changed. He experienced a miracle. His feet carried him to the doorstep of his Youth leader, someone who welcomed him in and showed him Christ’s love in action.

Between that sense of Community he felt in Youth Group and the type of Community he's witnessed through just being a student in a Campus Ambassador's club, Devin can see the impact that Campus Ministry has. Between his testimony and the good discipleship he has received from his Mentor, Devin has realized he can use his testimony and skills for the kingdom.

Education

Devin is currently a student at Western Oregon University in Monmouth Oregon. He is studying to become a History teacher at the High school level. He has known he was going to be a teacher since he was 14 and teaching his friends their homework because they didn't pay attention in class. If there's anything Devin loves, it's the look in someone's eyes once something makes sense. He loves sitting down with people and just chatting about Bi-Planes from World War One, especially growing up in McMinnvile Oregon which has the Evergreen Space and Plane Museum. Devin enjoys playing board games with friends, family, the occasional stranger. But he especially has a passion for Table-top Role-playing games and has been playing TTRPG's like Dungeons and Dragons since he was 8.

In colorful communities and along scenic highways, diverse people and landscapes span coast to coast

Iconic American traditions include Thanksgiving dinner, jazz music and the Super Bowl. They meld with eclectic examples of multicultural heritage: numerous local Chinatowns, family-owned taquerias and even cowboy boots, which originated among the nomadic Huns of eastern Europe.

The nation's landscape shows just as many contrasts — sandy beaches and rocky coastlines, open plains and vast deserts, rugged mountains and winding canyons, and abundant rivers and lakes.

The ideals of life and liberty that founded the United States have made the country one of the world's most prosperous, though not without dark chapters and present troubles. Crime, discrimination and ethics violations make regular headlines, and many people live below the national poverty level.

Families view education as essential to the pursuit of happiness, if not also a path to wealth and power for the most ambitious. Yet Americans also demonstrate a charitable spirit of generosity toward neighbors and nations in need.

Freedom of religion grants opportunity for all faiths, but Christianity holds particular influence in country's history and daily life.

Your participation with Missions Door supports ministry in the United States among college students, including many international students, in collaboration local churches. It also enables social outreach, church planting and leadership development in a wide variety of communities — among Native Americans and other cultural groups, and in urban and suburban settings where growing and changing demographics create new opportunities for the Gospel.

Cultural Snapshot

Aside from the Native American, Native Hawaiian and Native Alaskan populations, nearly all Americans and their ancestors immigrated to the United States.

Faith Fact

In a 2013 survey, 56% of Americans said that religion played a "very important role in their lives” — a larger number than any other wealthy nation.
