Missionary Profile

Ministry Focus

Jan Victoria San Agustin serves as a Campus Intern with Missions Door, where she builds relationships with college students and helps create a welcoming community at Oregon State University. Part of her ministry involves outreach events, coordinating their weekly Tuesday Night Dinner & Discussions, and meeting one-on-one with students who want to learn more about Jesus, explore the Christian faith, or grow deeper in their walk with God. As a college student, she understands the unique challenges of navigating higher education while seeking to follow Christ faithfully. She knows what it's like to balance academics, relationships, and pressures to fit in while striving to stand out as a believer in an environment where many students are still exploring who they are and what they believe. Because of this, she desires to walk alongside students as they grow in their faith and learn to live boldly for Christ. Her desire is "to create an inviting space where students from every racial, cultural, and faith background feel welcomed, loved, and encouraged to ask questions, experience authentic community, and discover the hope found in Christ." Her prayer is that students would not only come to know Jesus, but continue growing as faithful disciples who live out their faith both in college and beyond.

Faith Story

Jan was blessed to grow up in a Christ-centered family and church in Maui, where she learned about Jesus from a young age and was actively involved in church life. While her upbringing gave her a strong foundation, it wasn't until she moved across the Pacific to attend college in Oregon that her faith was truly tested. Away from her family and the Christian community she had always known, she struggled to remain rooted in her faith and often sought acceptance from the world instead of finding her identity in Christ. Yet even when she struggled, God remained faithful by using Mission Door's Jeff Harris from Campus Ambassadors to faithfully invest in her, reminding her of God's love and helping her remain connected to Him through that difficult season. During her first two years of college, Campus Ambassadors was in a season of transition, and she deeply felt the absence of a healthy Christian community. When the ministry relaunched during her third year, God used it to reignite her faith and remind her of the joy and strength found in the Body of Christ. As the ministry grew, He unexpectedly opened doors for me to serve and lead, and she quickly discovered a passion for walking alongside other college students. Looking back, Jan writes "... I can clearly see that God was using my own season of wandering to prepare me for this ministry. Today, serving with Missions Door is an opportunity to share the same hope, encouragement, and Christ-centered community that God graciously used to draw me back to Himself."

Education

Jan was born and raised in Maui, Hawai'i, but recently moved to Oregon to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering at OSU. She enjoys hiking, baking, and playing music, specifically on the worship team at her local church in Corvallis.

In colorful communities and along scenic highways, diverse people and landscapes span coast to coast

Iconic American traditions include Thanksgiving dinner, jazz music and the Super Bowl. They meld with eclectic examples of multicultural heritage: numerous local Chinatowns, family-owned taquerias and even cowboy boots, which originated among the nomadic Huns of eastern Europe.

The nation's landscape shows just as many contrasts — sandy beaches and rocky coastlines, open plains and vast deserts, rugged mountains and winding canyons, and abundant rivers and lakes.

The ideals of life and liberty that founded the United States have made the country one of the world's most prosperous, though not without dark chapters and present troubles. Crime, discrimination and ethics violations make regular headlines, and many people live below the national poverty level.

Families view education as essential to the pursuit of happiness, if not also a path to wealth and power for the most ambitious. Yet Americans also demonstrate a charitable spirit of generosity toward neighbors and nations in need.

Freedom of religion grants opportunity for all faiths, but Christianity holds particular influence in country's history and daily life.

Your participation with Missions Door supports ministry in the United States among college students, including many international students, in collaboration local churches. It also enables social outreach, church planting and leadership development in a wide variety of communities — among Native Americans and other cultural groups, and in urban and suburban settings where growing and changing demographics create new opportunities for the Gospel.

Cultural Snapshot

Aside from the Native American, Native Hawaiian and Native Alaskan populations, nearly all Americans and their ancestors immigrated to the United States.

Faith Fact

In a 2013 survey, 56% of Americans said that religion played a "very important role in their lives” — a larger number than any other wealthy nation.
