Caring for Widows

Project Profile

Ministry Focus

Jesus shows us that we should love our neighbor as ourselves, but it also tells us to take care of widows and orphans. We understand the importance for us to take care of His church, and He emphasizes that we need to dedicate special care to the weakest and most vulnerable, such as the people who have lost their caretakers and support system—the widows.

In Honduras, when an elderly person loses his/her spouse, they have to take care of themselves. The children and grandchildren often build a small and dark place for their grandmother to live in. These places do not keep them warm from the cold and damp weather, and with no one to take care of them, they are faced with a lonely fate. It is an incredibly poor quality of life, and many gradually lose hope and health.

Jesus commands us to be loving and compassionate. The scriptures teach us in James 1:27 that we must take care of them, and so we created the “Care for Widows” program. This project will give life to these abandoned women who no longer have the strength or the health to work and support themselves.

We invite you to be part of this compassion and mercy program. You can help provide these women a dignified, clean and warm place to spend their last days. There are more than twenty-five widowed women in Paul and Tania Steer’s ministry who have been abandoned by their children and grandchildren, left to take care of themselves. This project aims to donate building blocks, bedding, cement and other construction materials so that they can have a safe place to rest. This project will also contribute to their need of food and medicine.
